Progressing from IT Helpdesk supervisor to Database Services Manager, I later became the Senior IT Auditor for European operations (serving 13 countries).Between 2004 and 2006, in order to develop more management skills, I undertook 18 months of study and research at the University of Cambridge Engineering Department, the Judge Business School, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). I then returned to Genworth. After the financial crash this work was terminated, so I began to develop my consulting career. In 2009-10 I worked on overseas aid consulting, then built an important working relationship with a leading international engineering consultancy, now called Risktec TÜV Rheinland. This enabled a deeper understanding of engineering practices (especially risk management) across many industrial sectors. At Risktec, I also worked extensively on the management of training and education services for professional engineers. These were delivered via the university sector in collaboration with professional institutions. In 2018 I became involved in the production of commercial technology strategies. This led to a lengthy period of research followed by the production of my first book, 'Technology and Engineering Strategies: Step-by-Step from Theory into Practice' (Routledge, 2024).The contents of this book have been used to build two new professional vocational courses. These teach strategic thinking and strategy development to technologists, engineers, and senior leaders in the technology and engineering sectors. Show less
