I was a kid who loved to catch frogs at the local ponds, build Lego, and read a variety of books. I grew into a young man motivated to learn how the world works on the largest and smallest of scales, guiding me to a double degree in History and Microbiology.For the past two decades, I'd worked in the biotech industry wearing many hats. Starting in production roles, I found early on that I had an aptitude for building algorithms. Though I built simple macros in Excel VBA for iterative label making and sample quality control, what got me noticed by more senior managers was a clever UI macro for the office NCAA tournament pool. Thus began my unlikely journey, learning how to code in Python, R, Java, Matlab, and more. From probe design, tech support, data analysis, and bench science, I’ve carried that algorithmic savvy to each role, formalizing my education with certification in Biostatistics and Java. Outside of my professional life, I had become highly political engaged, and as time went on, I was looking for a way to bring into better balance *what* I did with *who* I was. In the middle of completing a Spatial Analysis for Public Health Master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University, I felt a calling to enter the public sector doing work that mattered deeply to me.
