I am a requirements analyst with more than 20 years of experience and I like to look beyond the limits of my own area of expertise. For me, the essence of my job is that I form a link between the ICT on one hand and the conduct of business on the other. The foremost challenge for me is to elicit the functional requirements, mediate between stake holders with different interests, weighing costs and benefits of different solutions and then document these requirements clearly and unambiguously.Subjects that are of particular interest to me are the analysis of complex problems, data modelling and keeping up with new developments in the field of software engineering, both on the subject of requirements analysis and more technical subjects. A few examples are agile software development, Behavioural Driven Development, REST services and new developments in programming.During the last 15 years I have worked exclusively in DevOps teams. In these teams we work according to an agile method, like RUP, SCRUM or Kanban. This way of working appeals to me very much, because I like to co-operate with people of other disciplines and short lines of communication. Furthermore this way of working has made it possible for me to become somebody who does not only have knowledge about his own area of expertise, but also about the related ones. My experience is that this gives me a better understanding of the work of other disciplines in the team, and this in turn increases the co-operation within the team.I also like to share my knowledge and experience outside my DevOps team. I do this by coaching colleagues one-to-one on the subject of requirements analysis, reviewing of my colleagues’ work, and giving workshops. In addition I am coaching people as a buddy, which means that I coach colleagues outside my own team on both requirements analysis and social aspects.
