GIWA is a not-for-profit, whole of supply chain member industry association. Its’ purpose is to support an effective and efficient Western Australian grain industry. GIWA facilitates communication, information exchange, capacity building and grain supply chain solutions for Western Australia. It's members include researchers, plant breeders, seed cleaners and distributors, growers, grower groups, agronomists, farm business advisors, input service providers, domestic feed and food grain processors, bulk and container logistics service providers, the trade.GIWA is a member of Grain Trade Australia, the Australian Oilseeds Federation, Pulse Australia, Stock Feed Manufacturing Council of Australia, the Australian Fodder Industry Association, and cooperates as the western regional council of Barley Australia. GIWA collaborates with the Australian Export Grain Innovation Centre, the National Working Party for Grain Protection, Wheat Quality Australia, the Grain Industry Market Access Forum and is a service provider to the Grains Research and Development Corporation.Through partnerships with CBH and DPIRD and on behalf of members, GIWA provides support for trade development and market access issues in WA. GIWA provides barley rationalisation and oat classification ‘industry good’ services through the GIWA Barley and Oat Councils. GIWA is the caretaker of coarse grain standards in Western Australia, managed through the GIWA Standards Committee. GIWA provides monthly seasonal crop forecasting, the GIWA Crop Reports. GIWA promotes the West Australian grain industry as a globally competitive and technologically cutting-edge place to work through the GIWA Careers in Grain project. GIWA is a services provider to GRDC, running the GRDC Research Updates in Western Australia (formerly the DPIRD Crop Updates). GIWA was a founder and participates in the informal Food Alliance WA network of primary industries associations.

Contracted part-time (2.5 days/week) to assist the Cities of Cockburn, Fremantle, Kwinana, Melville and Rockingham and the Town of East Fremantle to implement a Regional Natural Resource Management (NRM) Strategy and other NRM activities through a consultative approach with member Councils.Key functions include:• Project development and management;• Network facilitation and coordination;• Capacity building and knowledge sharing;• Regional representation and influence; and• Climate change adaptation research and coordination

Perth NRM established the Swan NRM Committee to act as an advisory body for the Swan NRM Strategy and a forum for natural resource management coordination and collaboration. The Committee operates under a collective impact framework where organisations and entities from different sectors work towards a common agenda, shared measurement and alignment of effort.As a collaborative forum, the Committee provides: An opportunity to guide NRM planning and investment into the future as it relates to the Strategy; A means to share, integrate or align planning frameworks and strategies pertinent to NRM across all sectors and land tenures; A platform for collaborative NRM decision making in the Swan Region; An opportunity to establish collaborative partnerships and leverage funding and other resources; and An opportunity to identify potential alignments, efficiencies, gaps and opportunities.

NRM regional planning and community engagement. Grew the Swan Catchment Centre from 3 to 14 staff to service the environmental community of Perth. Provided strategic advice and support to the Swan Catchment Council (now Perth Region NRM).

Management and leadership of the large research, extension and regulatory facility and extensive agricultural region. Peter is understood to be the youngest District Leader ever to be appointed by the WA Department of Agriculture, and with it gaining responsibility for the largest agricultural region in the state.
