I am bringing my experience in clinical research and insight from managing operations at a medical school to this international CRO.

I am leading analytics and contributing to overall study leadership on a clinical trial to address vaccine hesitancy in long-term care workers.

The Fresco Foundation is focused on improving care for people with Parkinson's under the leadership of Paolo Fresco, formerly Executive Vice Chairman of General Electric (1992-1998) and Chairman of Fiat (1998-2003). The Fresco Foundation has split its support between grants in the United States (the Fresco Institute at NYU Langone Health) and grants in Italy (the Fresco Parkinson Institute). My role was to set the strategy for the "bridge," a bi-directional exchange of ideas between the US and Italy in improving care and strengthening Movement Disorders as a neurology subspecialty in Italy.

The Vice Dean serves as the chief operating officer for the medical school. The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is part of the UNC system and is focused on training a diverse group of focused students to be the next generation of physicians and improving health and healthcare for North Carolina's communities.Management of an academic enterprise is increasingly challenging, and during the period from 2018 through 2021, Brody has experienced many challenges, each time emerging stronger. Brody received a $15 million direct appropriation for COVID-19 pandemic research, and Vice Dean Schmidt oversaw expenditures from this fund over the six months it was active, leading to the renovation of a BSL2+ into a BSL3 facility, the formation of a genetics core and recruitment of genetic pathology faculty, and research ranging across vaccine development, models of long-term sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection, and community outreach initiatives.In addition to serving as Vice Dean, I held appointments in public health and biochemistry. I also oversaw Health Science Division healthcare elements as Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Medical Affairs.

Served on the Programmatic Panel for the Parkinson's Research Program for CDMRP (Congressionally Designated Medical Research Program). Participated in oversight of strategy and grant review and approval for this Department of Defense basic science research funding program.

Participated in this prestigious committee to set quality improvement standards for Medicare. Led discussion for measures for Parkinson’s disease, participated in evaluation of measures for care across neurology. Appointed as an ad-hoc member of the 2012 committee, re-appointed to the standing committee in 2016.

Experience: While overseeing the foundation’s $5m-$7m mission spending and up to 15 staff, focused on advancing translational science by building a clinical trial network and a multicenter trial coordinating center. Leveraging a revitalized Centers of Excellence program, delivered high-profile, high-quality big data research and translational insight. Focus was on driving clinical practice change through strategic advancement of knowledge, looking beyond regulatory processes to driving evidence-based medicine.

Experience: Supported by the firm’s analysts, developed the health IT practice area and assisted with the enterprise software practice. Led marketing efforts and represented the firm at conferences and trade shows. Wrote articles, columns, and sector bulletins in coverage areas. Led training program.Accomplishments: Led financial advisory engagement for a cloud-computing infrastructure provider focused on the life sciences. Hired by a private equity firm to lead a buy-side engagement and provided services to diverse clients. Served as interim CEO of a client software company after the death of the CEO. Wrote well-received articles on health and computing.

Experience: Led expansion of company. Redefined products, developed sales material, and managed sales pipeline with customers including Kaiser Permanente, a world-leading healthcare organization, the US military, and a major European national system. Defined and implemented intellectual property strategy, and led strategic partnering efforts and relationships with vendors and service firms. Formulated exit, negotiated sale of assets, and provided continuing relationship management.Accomplishments: Raised $1.5 million from investors, increased revenue from $88K to $376K with $1M projected for FY2007. Delivered software to manage healthcare transformation for Kaiser Permanente. In a clinical trial, Doctor Global’s software improved depression outcomes by 43% (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22983558) and reduced utilization as profiled in the Wall Street Journal’s health blog on 11 May 2007. Lobbied to secure authorization and appropriations to allow the military to use DGL’s systems; provided electronic medical record systems for hurricane Katrina victims, was founding member of the HIMSS life sciences roundtable.

Experience: Responsible for day-to-day operations. Created and implemented technology strategy, employing in-house development, open- and closed-source software, out-sourced (and off-shore) development, and cloud services integration.Accomplishments: Led 30-person staff and ~50 contributors and instructors as COO; At start up, deployed course platform, website, and launched ten courses within four months. Hired as software developer, promoted to CTO and then COO.

GB Lorem developed software for managing international job placement.

Participated in the formation of a well-funded internet retail incubator. Designed and developed software and managed engagements with major businesses establishing an on-line presence. Served as technical lead on ZanyBrainy.com launch and database transition lead on the Dick's Sporting Goods transition. Served as part of the core architecture team and a debugging swat team and solved a critical stability issue.
