Brian J. Pohl has over 25 years of experience as a visual effects artist, previs supervisor and educational lecturer. A veteran of George Lucas’ previs team and Industrial Light and Magic's art department, Pohl is credited for creating or supervising previs on over twenty-seven feature films including Star Trek (2009), Independence Day Resurgence, Super 8, Battle: Los Angeles, and Star Wars Episode II. Pohl has also served as an educational and animation consultant for the software development industry designing new tools that assist the digital artist's production workflow. Trained in agile workflow methodology alongside multiple years of teaching and lecturing at various educational institutions, Pohl has spent a large portion of his career providing creative cinematic direction, story consulting, previs supervision and Unreal Engine subject matter expertise to large sized production visualization teams and audiences in either the film, animation or the broadcast industries.Recently, Pohl worked as a technical program manager for the Media and Entertainment industry division within Epic Games. During this time, Pohl constructed a community education program known as the Unreal Fellowship and acted as the program's academic Dean and primary instructor. This program has impacted over 1200 Fellows and has forged satellite programs in Serbia, India and various training facilities in the United States. Pohl’s knowledge base is centralized around animation, previsualization, and virtual cinematography and is associated with Epic Games, Autodesk, Method Studios, Sony Imageworks, Digital Domain, Industrial Light and Magic and Lucasfilm. He has lectured at multiple educational venues and industry conferences including Gnomon School of Visual FX, Unreal Fest, Siggraph and DigiPro.
