My recipe for success implements an inverted pyramid – with employees at the top, followed by customers, and then money at the bottom level. By implementing this value system, 100s of multinational companies have been able to grow and expand while also improving the quality of the lives of their leadership and employees. While recognizing the obvious traits that differentiate one culture from the next, I observed that most management and employees are motivated by the exact same things: 1) purpose, 2) meaning, 3) appreciation, and lastly, 4) money. What is most important to people is finding a way that they can contribute. I call this formula “compassionate productivity” and it is the main concept that I use today in my management work.In 2021, Richard presented at over twenty speaking events in seven countries. Over the years, he has been a featured speaker at the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva, having formerly served as the AFL/CIO’s pension technical advisor; Social Security Reform in Bulgaria; the National Conference on Pension Reform; SHRM, WorldatWork; American Benefits Council; and the International Leadership Forum, among many others. A prolific writer, Richard has contributed articles on his expertise to Forbes, Employee Benefits Adviser, Workspan, Employee Benefit News, Global Benefits Vision, HR.com, SHRM’s HR News, and dozens of business journals. In 2003, his article on “Global Benefit Strategies” was awarded one of the four best articles by WorldatWork.
