My lifelong ambition and mission are to join the frontiers of scientific exploration and contribute to our knowledge of the unknown polar region. As the first Asian who dedicated my whole life to mapping and estimating the rate of glacial volume change in the future warmer and wetter Canadian High Arctic, I have taken a leading role in conducting and supporting numerous scientific projects and guided expeditions under extreme conditions in high-latitude regions, accumulating over 1000 days of field experience in the Arctic and Antarctic. My research scope centres on estimating and actively monitoring glaciers, spatial distribution, and temporal dynamics in the high Arctic. This deep-seated interest in studying the polar ice is not only terrestrially limited but also extends toward the Moon, Mars, and the other icy bodies within the Solar System.I was honoured to be named one of The Explorers Club's 50 Explorers Changing the World in 2022 for my polar research and expedition achievements. More than that, I am a fellow of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), Humanities & Social Sciences Expert Group to coordinate and promote scientific discoveries in both polar regions. Besides, I have also set a goal of climbing every 4000m peak in the Alps, reaching 78 out of 82, to draw public awareness of rapidly melting Alps glaciers, which may not exist after 2050.Additionally, I believe that educating and inspiring future generations towards the importance of geoscientific research on and beyond our planet is crucial for human discovery. Therefore, I have led a group of young environmentalists to establish two non-profit organizations: Asia Youth Alpine Mentorship Program (alpineasiayouth.com/website), enhancing public awareness of polar and alpine regions in Asia: Ecobus (ecobus.org.hk), which promotes minimal impacts on the environment. These programs have worked with over 100 young individuals in Hong Kong to challenge them to new opportunities and enhance their understanding and awareness of the climatic changes currently affecting our planet.
