Working on this project has furthered my knowledge of computer systems, as well as taking on responsibility for the project to move forward and report any issues in the system and improvements to it. I was also responsible for training pickers on a system new to Avon, with new scanners and a more streamlined way of picking orders to make the picking process easier for pickers, as well as more time efficient for orders to get out quicker. From helping to run events such as bingo nights and comedy clubs to sell-out nightclub events and working during freshers week, I learnt a lot of new skills. I was often doing different tasks at work, and these also included (but were not limited to) decoration making and setting up, learning new events weekly to make sure students got correct information during flyering, cloakroom and returns during events, as well as general customer service and various admin tasks. Working as an entertainments assistant pushed my customer service skills and further, as I almost always worked face-to-face with customers to answer to their queries and questions, which also was a lot of pressure. I was often praised for my outstanding customer service skills and keeping a level-head on busy events, which have helped greatly with my organization skills and being professional in the workplace. I also got first-hand experience with running events and helping plan events and pitching ideas, which helped me understand how the events sector works and how much hard work goes into planning large scale events at a university. As I worked on reception alone, I was held responsible for what happened during my shift and all of my actions had a direct impact on the school. I was responsible for cash-handling and making sure all the clubs that used community areas paid for their use, as well as making sure those areas were clean and available to use before and after each club. I was also responsible for taking bookings on shift and was often working with security and site staff to make sure clubs left on time. Furthermore, I was responsible for locking areas of the school to make sure that only suitable areas were used, and the school was safe for security to lock up after shifts. One of the most important aspects of my job was administrative work, as I had to face customers daily which were both parents and potential paying clients. I often had to relay messages back and forth between various members of staff, as well as answer phone calls, emails, and general questions both parents and customers may have and the answers which I am allowed to give them.
