The first year of my MPharm degree has helped me build organisation and interpersonal skills that I utilise in all aspects of my academic and professional lives. I am a very punctual individual who is able to balance a lot of academic and extracurricular projects without sacrificing quality or efficiency. During placement, I have built my teamworking skills and have found that I both enjoy and excel at integrating into new teams and adjusting to a variety of work situations.I enjoy keeping busy and have also managed to balance 30 credits worth of French modules with my studies, achieving a grade of 70% in my French modules and of 73% in my MPharm. I have also enjoyed volunteering both within the university and in the wider community. I volunteer during term-time at ASHA, a community centre for asylum seekers and refugees, where I help run the Saturday morning Women & Children Group. This has required me to learn to work in a fast-paced, hectic environment within an intercultural team of different skillsets. As our service-users are from lots of different cultural and religious backgrounds, of different age groups and with a variety of individual needs, I have learned the significance of tailoring all interactions to the individual. During this year, I have also co-lead a research project in the sustainability practices and eco-minded aspects of the curriculum of the School of pharmacy and Bioengineering at Keele university as part of a larger international project named the Planetary Health Report Card. This has required both research and administrative contributions from me. The project was a resounding success and Keele University was joint-first in publishing a report for Pharmacy both within the UK and Europe.I work part-time for SH:24, a sexual health non-profit, as a sexual health test kit distributor. I find my work very rewarding as the efforts of my team directly improve the lives and access to healthcare of thousands of people across the UK. I am very passionate about destigmatising healthcare and opening conversations around lesser talked subjects such as sexual and mental health. I am also committed to ensuring access to healthcare for everyone who needs it. Through the study of pharmacy, I hope to make a positive impact by becoming a knowledgeable and understanding clinical lead who offers compassionate and unbiased care to all her patients.
