The promotion to senior-level engineer came rather quickly after beginning at the company after my familiarity with PHP and Laravel was proven. Due to my successful migration of our local development environment, I was offered a position in the Engineering Operations department, which I accepted. I gained quite a bit of experience with AWS services and Kubernetes. Eventually I moved back to Software Engineering due to the lack of opportunity to achieve flow states in DevOps. I believe that I am more creative and happy when I can code within a state of flow, and missed that opportunity, which was my primary reason for moving back. I continued to hone my skills with PHP/Laravel and was also occasionally involved in Go microservice development in which I could utilize my prior Go experience.

Starting as a mid-level engineer due to outdated PHP experience, I proved that I adapt to any given stack quickly, as evidenced by the short term of this position before being promoted to a senior-level engineer. This job involved a wide array of technologies. The main stack was Laravel for backend operations and Vue for the frontend. I was successful in migrating the (rather complex) local development environment for all engineers to a Docker environment. I also added LaunchDarkly integration for addition of feature flags to our platform.

Brought on as the sole developer focused on building a Java-based intranet application and corresponding Android client app to track sales, shifts worked, and provide key performance reporting to all departments of our retail staffing and management company.Over time, the development team grew to four developers, working to make a fully-custom Ruby on Rails-based intranet application to replace the previous Java application. Key areas covered by the application include importing data from various sources to a single database, point-of-sales entry for salespeople in the field, tracking of time and attendance for employees, calculation of payroll, job applicant tracking for a recruiting call center, client-facing reporting, and myriad reports used in all facets of day-to-day operation within the company.

Developed company websites for small- and medium-sized businesses alongside a web designer. Primarily used WordPress as a development platform, taking Photoshop templates and breaking them out into full WordPress themes and adding in custom JQuery functionality.
