Context is everything.If you don't know the terrain, you can't plan your journey. If you don't plan your journey, you won't arrive at your destination.My work is about looking at the context in which an organisation is operating, and creating a plan to ensure that the organisation's vision is achieved.I work within a community context because when everyone participates, the best outcomes are achieved. Community is where human rights are upheld, the sick find their way to health, the underprivileged are nourished, asylum seekers are provided with a haven and minorities find a voice. It's also a place where creativity thrives and much is made out of very little.It's not enough to do the work - the work must have a positive impact. I am particularly interested in understanding not only financial results, but the explicit impact of the work undertaken. This is essential to achieving a vision, and ensuring continuous quality improvement magnifies the impact in the changing landscape in which we work.And there have been significant changes in the broad landscape of community life over the past thirty years - political approaches, social values and attitudes as well as our cultural makeup. This has created a lot of instability and subsequent work for the community sector. I do my best work where change is needed and I work with the organisation to guide it through the change process. Engaging the stakeholders, identifying objectives, assessing the risks involved, working out a strategy and then planning and managing the process is where I shine.Outside of work, I really to explore my local environment. And while I'm exploring, if I catch a music gig, take some photos and then have some brunch at a cafe the next day, my joy is complete.If we have worked together, or run across each other in our travels, I'd welcome hearing from you.
