I work in Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) which is a not-for-profit organization providing technical assistance in micro insurance to organizations that focus on low-income communities. The MIA is among the largest micro insurance resource Centre’s globally. It works in liaison with partners from civil society, academia, bilateral and multilateral development agencies, the (re)insurance industry and national governments. The organization’s rapidly growing geographical spread covers several countries across Asia and Africa, including Cambodia, Fiji, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Tanzania.Basically my responsibilities is to develop and implement trainings at the community-level when setting up Micro Insurance Units, the MIA also provides professional training to external organizations on the nature and workings of micro insurance and reinsurance. Our trainees include grassroots organizations, MFIs, development NGOs, international organizations and government officials. Capacity building within the micro insurance sector is of key importance and we develop tailored training programs that build on the existing strengths of the participants. We believe in continuous learning, and the training sessions are mutually beneficial in this respect, as we also learn from the participants.
