About Poornima Madhavan, Ph.D.

I am a human factors psychologist who is passionate about improving the design and performance of work systems.My research and applied specialties include: System evaluations; Human-machine teaming; Trusted autonomy; UX/UI; Decision making and decision science; Risk analysis; Human data collection techniques (behavioral experiments, interviews, focus groups, surveys), and Qualitative/quantitative analyses. I have worn many hats in my career - scientist, teacher, writer, editor, mentor for early career professionals, administrator, policy analyst, public speaker and consultant. Over a span of two decades, I have led or worked on sponsored research for the majority of U.S. federal agencies. As a result, I have the unique ability to manage multidisciplinary projects and navigate complex challenges across a wide range of work settings in domains ranging from homeland defense to cybersecurity to healthcare. My administrative and managerial experience include: Nonprofit administration; Financial management, including budgeting and fundraising; Personnel management; and, science advocacy with Hill experience.
