In this role I lead, direct, coach and review the work of system engineering professional direct reports to accomplish program, project, and departmental goals. These highly customizable systems consist of multiple onboard control modules and servers, 802.11 WAPs, 3G/4G cellular transceivers and infrastructure, and Ku and Ka-band satellite modem and antenna systems.My responsibilities as Lead Systems Engineer include:- Managing and directing team activities, assigning and coordinating tasks, reviewing and approving work products, establishing team processes and best practices, and motivating, monitoring and mentoring staff as needed. - Collaborate with cross-functional business and engineering teams to define new products and features and generate the associated system requirements and architectural specifications (DOORS, Jira, Jama), user stories, use cases, interface specifications, ConOps, and other system-level documentation.- Work directly with aircraft OEMs (Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Comac, Embraer) to achieve aircraft type certification and new product line-fit offerability. Engage with airline customers from conceptual stage to customer delivery and certification of custom aircraft retrofit solutions.- Additional responsibilities include feasibility studies, supplier evaluations, aircraft wireless surveys, third-party integrations, system-level safety assessments (DO-178/254), leading and participating in customer ITCMs, IPTs, Tiger Teams and daily scrums, and driving updates to ARINC standards.

The Cambium/Motorola Point-to-Point Wireless Solutions Group design and market a range of advanced OFDM and MIMO based point-to-point Ethernet radios for Enterprise, Military, Government, Public Safety and Service Provider markets. My primary responsibility is the development of new network architectures utilizing Motorola’s portfolio of PTP wireless products. Additionally, I work closely with customers and internal Motorola engineering teams to develop technical requirements for integrating the PTP products into existing networks. Other key activities include the development of product and system requirements and other system-level documentation developed in conjunction with system analysis, evaluation and test.

As Lead Engineer in the 4G Devices group I was responsible for the development of new wireless products and accessories developed jointly by Motorola, partner ODM’s and third party suppliers. The key activities in this role included providing a vision for the product, creating detailed architecture and technical requirements, evaluating and selecting ODM’s and key suppliers, engaging with the selected ODM to complete detailed product design specifications and schedules, and guiding them through the design, manufacture, test, certification and launch of the product. The role also involved technical problem solving, providing technical support to Motorola’s global customers and key account teams and providing tracking and oversight of key activities.

I was responsible for the direct management of engineering teams developing embedded software for new products at Motorola’s Mobile Devices and Automotive businesses. Teams were composed of local engineers reporting directly to me and remote engineers temporarily allocated to my team from low-cost development centers. I was very hands-on technically, writing and reviewing requirements (DOORS), source code (C/C++) and test plans, troubleshooting issues and providing technical support. I was responsible for project planning, tracking and oversight, including establishing schedules, coordinating with system test and deployment teams, aligning schedules, allocating proper resources and ensuring successful field trials and product launch. I was also responsible for hiring staff, employee evaluations and performance reviews, and defining capital needs and operating budget.

As Technical Lead Engineer I was responsible for leading engineering teams developing embedded software for wireless communications devices used in automobiles and cellular infrastructure. My responsibilities included developing architecture documents and detailed requirements (DOORS), interface specifications (CDMA wireless link, MOST optical vehicle bus), and source code (embedded C/C++, VRTX and VxWorks RTOS). Each role also required technical problem solving and debugging, providing technical support to customers and internal teams, presenting regular status and providing tracking and oversight of key activities to all stakeholders.
