Shanahan Engineering provides construction management services internationally to gas and steam turbine manufacturers including General Electric, Siemens, Hitachi, Mitsubishi and Alstom.The TFS division provides the services of its engineers, managers and supervisors in support of power plant construction, start-up and operations & maintenance on international assignments.Responsibilities included:- Sales and profit margin for the division- Management of a team of 16 at head office including performance reviews- Responsibility for up to 70 field employees- Operations of the division including the ISO 9001 quality management systemKey Achievements- During this time period, the division achieved record sales of 35M€.- Negotiated and achieved contract awards with new customers.- Developed a new organisation structure including departments for recruitment and employee relations. The result was a more structured and cohesive team which allowed Service Managers more time to focus on sales.- Developed the new roles of Employee Relations and Site Relations Officers so to exercise an enhanced duty of care for field employees.- Developed the company’s ISO procedures so as to remove redundant activities and enhance the performance of the division. I achieved this using a collaborative approach, agreeing, establishing and documenting roles and responsibilities for the team members.- Established a focus on customer service without compromising fair treatment of field employees or head office staff.- Developed a new database for tracking, prioritizing and streamlining recruitment activities.- Setup a weekly division meeting and encouraged social outings and employee support for charitable organizations.- Training and mentoring of newly hired Service Managers.

Responsibilities included:- Managing a profit centre, sales & margin forecasting and delivery.- Managing customer relationships including Hitachi Europe, GE and Siemens USA.- Selection, recruitment, assignment and operational management of field engineers.- Contract management for both employment and customer contracts.Key Achievements- Exceeded sales targets achieving personal sales of 10M€.- Generated enquiries and orders from new customers.- Arranged for weekly conference calls with key clients leading to enhanced relationships, new orders and increased sales.

Responsibilities included:- Negotiation of engineering services contracts with customers.- Proposal development.- Development and documentation of construction management procedures for the company.- Due diligence surveys on power plants in India (biomethanation) and Pakistan (coal).- Documentation of a US$10M claim defence evidence report for a client.- Management of client contract for PSDS (Project Supervisor Design Process) services.- Sourcing, screening, and recruitment of engineers for overseas assignments.- Provision of classroom training on Speedtronic Mark V gas turbine controls system.- Investigative engineering reports.- Subcontractor pre-qualification.

GE Energy is the manufacturer and supplier of GE gas turbines. Nearly 7000 GE gas turbines provide power to homes and industry worldwide.During my ten years with GE, I represented the company on numerous international assignments. Project locations included Austria, Algeria, Hungary, South Korea, Pakistan and Senegal.Responsibilities on projects included:- Acting as General Electric’s point of contact for its customer on the project.- Liaising with GE USA on technical queries / warranty issues.- Ensuring that all work was in conformance with GE’s technical specifications.- Overseeing gas turbine & generator positioning and mechanical alignment.- Supervision of erection of gas turbine inlet and exhaust systems.- Supervision of erection of gas turbine piping systems for lube oil, water etc.- Gas turbine control panel configuration.- Gas turbine pre-start checks, start-up, system commissioning and tuning.Sample projects include:Lead Engineer – Controls upgrade of the 1000MW 16 unit PP7 plant, Saudi ArabiaLead Engineer – 230MW plant installation for the Ministry of Energy, TurkmenistanLead Mechanical – 35MW plant for Codelco, Tocopilla, ChileControls Engineer – Start-up of 6 x MS7001 gas turbines at PP8 plant, Saudi Arabia
