Art nurtures our imaginations, letting us explore the world through the voices of others and envision different ways of living. It is sometimes said that people with dementia and teenagers in the care system do not have a voice in society. In truth they often have a loud voice but few listeners. By bringing these works together under one roof, we are able to harness the transformative power of words and pictures to change lives, empower vital discussion, and – we hope – transform not just art but the society we live in. Where the Heart is shows that people in the care system and with dementia have fascinating and important stories to tell, and that art made with these often marginalised groups can be as exciting and as original as art made in other situations. And that it can make a difference. Where the Heart is represents a unique collaboration between statutory providers of health and social care, voluntary sector partners, artists and individuals in the care system. Show less
