I currently work as a quantitative analyst for a private equity firm dealing with cryptocurrency and traditional assets! My background in physics and many years of equities trading has pushed me towards pursuing my hobby full time! I previously developed and backtested strategies for roughly $100M in assets as well as created a position management system to track millions of submitted market orders. See my CV for more details! Now, I develop automated trading systems from start to finish. I was a postdoctoral researcher at NIST working on chip scale atomic clocks to pursue a passion of creating disruptive technologies using cutting edge research and development! In my spare time, I develop my own custom stock options trading calculators and automated trading software. View my employment, academic information and publications on my ORCID ID here: https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1481-1966 as well as on Research Gate: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Jacob_Pate3I completed two separate appointments as a visiting scholar student (Sept.-Dec. 2019 and March 8th - March 20th, 2020) at the University of Western, Australia in Perth, Australia with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems under the joint guidance of Dr. Michael Tobar and Dr. Jay Sharping. We investigated the influence of the thermal Casimir force and its exciting applications to develop arbitrary topological mechanical oscillators in the field of optomechanics. I have been invited back to further develop the research and platform to study the thermal Casimir effect and how we can harness its exciting applications!I worked and studied as a graduate physics student at the University of California, Merced resulting in a doctoral degree in cavity optomechanics. Our group focused on achieving high quality factor and strongly-coupled microwave superconducting radio frequency cavities for the purpose of macroscopic interactions between light and matter. I graduated with a B.S. in Physics at California State University, San Bernardino while also fulfilling requirements for a B.S. Applied in Physics as well as a Minor in Mathematics. During the summers of 2011-2015, I had the opportunity to attend Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a summer student / student engineer to increase my knowledge in Optics, Laser Applications, Photonics, LabVIEW, and MATLAB programming.
Listed skills include Physics, Science, Labview, Laser, and 20 others.

My research was focused on developing superconducting radio frequency (SRF) microwave cavities for macroscopic optomechanics. Simply stated, we inject a certain wavelength of light (microwaves) and allow them to build up (resonate) within these structures. With large enough quality factors (a measure of energy stored vs energy lost), the light actually has enough pressure to manipulate mechanical oscillators - such as amplifying or damping motion. The devices have applications in metrology, cavity quantum electrodynamics, and quantum information science. My past responsibilities include research and teaching. I arranged the opportunity to move and conduct research in Perth, Western Australia for three months. I strengthened my skills and understanding in the areas of microwave interferometry, optomechanics, and bulk acoustic wave devices. I taught multiple introductory physics and calculus discussion sections at the university.
Perth, Australia
I was a visiting graduate student at the University of Western, Australia in Perth, Australia with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems under the joint guidance of Dr Michael Tobar and Dr Jay Sharping. We investigated the influence of the thermal Casimir force with microwave re-entrant cavities and its exciting applications to develop arbitrary topological mechanical oscillators.
Pasadena, Ca, Usa
I gained the experience and knowledge of working with optics, heterodyne interferometry, lasers, metrology, LabVIEW (interfacing with data acquisition instruments), and MATLAB programming.
California State University San Bernardino
I helped operate the newly built observatory on CSUSB campus doing tasks such as building cables, working on software communications between the telescopes and computers, installing hardware for the telescope, and imaging the sky. I have given a presentation at the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) as well as assist with outreach opportunities for people of all ages ranging from elementary students to CSUSB alumni to formal dinners with generous benefactors.
Crestline, Ca
Help supervise and run recreational activities (such as paintball, climbing wall, zip line, mountain bikes, skate park, etc.) for guests of all ages. Before being a recreation assistant I worked in the kitchen and malt shop making and serving out food to the guests.
