Primary duties involved implementing GIS initiatives for City of Cedar Rapids Public Works-Engineering, including managing related assets, creating production-quality maps and creating dashboards. Other duties included developing custom widgets in Experience Builder and improving GIS workflows by writing scripts and documenting processes.

Used publicly available remote sensing and satellite images to develop a river migration research model for the Kuskokwim River in Alaska. Results from the model could potentially be used by stakeholder in Indigenous riverbank villages to help their managed retreat efforts. Wrote custom scripts in Python and Javascript to download and clean data. Final products included a thesis and presentation highlighting scientific limitations of modeling in a data-sparse area that could still make a significant humanitarian impact.

Validated the accuracy of local election boundaries for various local elections across the United States and updated them as required. These boundaries were either publicly available, or needed to be obtained by contacting government officials. Additional research on local election laws was also performed by reading school board bylaws, county charters etc. All of the aforementioned tasks were critical in the accuracy of Ballotpedia's Sample Ballot Lookup Tool.As part of a final project, curated custom election data visualization tools by processing election data by using ArcGIS Pro and Javascript; hosted on GitHub (https://poudelp.github.io/poudelp_cong_2018.github.io/)

Trained new employees on the technology.
