Team Leader on "Value Chains, Finance and Investments" at CIFOR. Coordinator of Flagship 3 on "Sustainable Value Chains and Investments" under the CGIAR Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA) Phase II focused on assessing the impacts of trade and investments on forests and people’s livelihoods, and the public and private sector responses to manage their impacts and trade-offs. Conducted research on the dynamics of forest management linked to domestic and international timber markets, the implications of large-scale investments for forests and economic development, the processes of landscape transformation shaped by agrarian change and options for enhancing landscape governance, the public and private institutional arrangements for supporting sustainable and inclusive value chains, and the governance systems and policy instruments to support the transition to low-carbon development. Main focus on the tropical regions, mainly in Latin America and Southeast Asia.

Research assistant in the Graduate School of Geography (GSG). Main tasks involved Collaborating in building a land-use/cover change simulation model focused on Southern Yucatán Peninsular Region and Ipswich Watershed, and testing validation techniques. Supported the Sustainability System Project, Theme 2: Vulnerability by systematizing literature on vulnerability and land-use/cover change.

Conducted research focused on (i) the impacts of agricultural frontier development on forests and people’s livelihoods, and their implications for broader landscape transformation and regional economic development in the Bolivian lowlands, and (ii) on the implications of forest reforms and political decentralization on forest resources management and social and economic development in the Bolivian lowlands.

Contributed to the analysis of agricultural development, public policies and market dynamics as part of broader policy and macroeconomic changes, and assessing policy options for supporting agricultural modernization and improved natural resources management. Data management and analysis, development of a market information system, and technical support and advise to the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Environment.
