Routledge and Taylor & Francis published my new book September 2018: Using Stories, Art and Play in Trauma Informed Treatment. It will be a good teaching and supervision resource for Social Work, Clinical Psychology, counseling and expressive therapy.I am a contributing author for an educational sustainability project between Taylor & Francis publishers and the United Nations. Since October 2017 I have been working at one of the San Antonio VA outpatient mental health clinics. I provide therapy to veterans with depression, PTSD, and moral injury. Much of my past work experience has been in non-profit settings, and I have interests in child & family therapy, trauma-informed care, personality assessment (Rorschach plus objective measures) and metaphor / therapeutic stories. I am a Ministerial Assessment Specialist with the UMC. I taught, supervised and trained graduate students at Spalding University for 19 years.My chapter on therapeutic stories is included in O'Connor, Schaefer and Braverman's Handbook of play therapy 2nd edition. In 2014, I published Using Trauma-Focused Stories: Inventions for Therapists, Children and Their Caregivers through Routledge Taylor and Francis. In 2010, my books Family Focused Trauma Intervention: Metaphor, Play with Victims of Abuse and Neglect & Metaphorical Stories for Child Therapy, were released and 2012 Outsmarting the Riptide of Domestic Violence. More recently Chaplain Kerry Hayes and I published a 4-session educational program for Veteran moral injury, Introduction to Acceptance and Forgiveness Therapy through VSN 16 MIRECC. The handbooks are public domain and available for download.Over the years, I have presented workshops for KPA, IARCCA, Home of the Innocents, and Seven Counties Services on the use of therapeutic stories and play techniques in CBT and Trauma Recovery. I have presented for KPA on R-PAS, Advanced Supervision, and Mindfulness with Young Children.
