- Hydro Power Industry With over 15 years of practical experience in developing small hydro power projects, Mr Prabath Wickramasinghe designs from the initial concept to commercial operation. Mr Prabath also established the hydro power sector at Hayleys Sri Lanka in 2003 and achieved a combined capacity of 16MW within a 5-year span. During this time, he successfully developed and commissioned five projects: Radella (200kW), Gomala Oya (1,000kW), Lower Neluwa (2,200kW), Somerset (1,200kW), and Palmerston (800kW). The present revenue stream from the sector, which he built from scratch, now exceeds USD 2 million. Lower Neluwa stands out as the first low head small hydro power project in Sri Lanka with a net head of 5.5m, utilizing double regulated Kaplan turbines. Mr Wickramasinghe possesses comprehensive understanding and expertise in setting up hydro power projects, and in 2005, he also led the Hayleys delegation to Lao PDR to establish large-scale hydro power projects there. In addition to that, he is the founder and promoter of mini hydro power projects for clients such as Hemas Power (Pvt) Limited, D Samson Industries, and Lanka Ventures Limited.Currently, I oversee six small power projects with a combined capacity of 25MW in the regulated waterway of Sudu Ganga, owned by the Mahaweli Authority Sri Lanka, and serve as the General Manager, CEO, and Lead Consultant for these projects, with one project near completion, one under construction, and four at the final stages of approval.- Wind Power IndustryIn 2006, I have successfully established the wind power sector at Hayleys by securing the company's first commercial wind power project, with a capacity of 10,000kW, in Nirmalapura, Kalpitiya. His involvement in the project's development, from 2006 to 2007, included securing approvals from the Ceylon Electricity Board and other state entities, as well as overseeing land clearance and the establishment of a wind data collection mast. Mr Prabath is also credited with founding the Vidatamunai and Seguwantivu wind power projects, with a combined capacity of 20MW, and were involved in conducting initial wind studies and development work for these projects. In 2003, he participated as part of the Sri Lankan delegation under USAID to visit the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the National Wind Technology Center in Denver, Colorado, where he underwent training on developing wind power sites and assessing wind data for power generation.
