Prabu Guthi comes from a family of a marginal farmers where growing up the entire family survived on an acre and a half of land. With the financial support of people from his village and against all odds, he was able to become an engineer. He then went on to work as an aerospace engineer at Honeywell and after paying off his family's debts, he decided that the social sector was his calling. While working as a Teach for India fellow, he saw a poverty of a different kind. He realized that while farmers migrated to cities for a better life, they actually ended up in poverty even here too. The only solution to this, he felt, was to help farmers own a larger part of the supply chain so that they could generate a higher income and build wealth. Thus the social enterprise Talégaon Farms was born.Talégaon Farms is a conscious, community driven social enterprise which works with farmers, artisans and communities alike to co-create products of exemplary quality such as ghee, cold pressed oils and millet chivdas and shares its goodness with the world at large. The organization creates the ecosystem to address issues in the supply chain so that the communities can co run and co-own a major part of the value chain and thus reap its benefits. As a “for profit social enterprise”, we commit to reinvest most of our profits to further our social mission
