Disposal of biomedical waste without scientific treatment can spread infectious diseases in the surrounding vicinity. Safe and scientific disposal of biomedical waste is the need of the hour to maintain a healthy environment. As a Programme Officer at CEE Gulbarga, I gave training to the hospital staff for the safe disposal and segregation of biomedical waste. Meanwhile, I also developed information education and communication materials for proper biomedical waste management at Gulbarga district.

Development of an in-vitro mixed biofilm model to understand the drug resistance nature in device associated StaphylococciStaphylococcus is a Gram-positive pathogen known to cause chronic infections in humans. It shows multi-drug resistance and forms biofilms on indwelling medical devices such as urinary catheters, endotracheal tubes, joint prosthesis etc. Biofilms are a major challenge in medical science as they inhibit drug penetration and increase mortality in hospitalized patients. During my Fulbright-Nehru tenure, I used confocal laser scanning microscopy and peptide nucleic acid fluorescent in-situ hybridization to understand the architecture and drug resistance nature in Staphylococcal biofilms especially Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis.
