About Pradeep Bansal, Phd
My work relates to thermal engineering with specific interest on energy efficiency, environmentally friendly low global warming alternative refrigerants, solar thermal applications and/or power generation, next generation energy efficient household appliances, not-in-kind refrigeration technologies, and development of energy efficient refrigeration systems. Much of this research aims at improving the energy efficiency of building equipment to reduce carbon footprint. The research covers both fundamental and applied aspects and integrates mathematical modelling, experimental techniques, and system optimization. In the quest of developing energy efficient refrigeration systems, my research on “CO2 as a refrigerant in low temperature refrigeration systems” had resulted in several keynote lecture invitations at International Conferences. Some of latest research projects areas include-1. Solar thermal power generation and other renewable energy applications2. Water-less cooling technologies3. Energy efficient appliances and refrigeration systems4. Separate sensible and latent cooling systems5. HVAC&R systems that limit Refrigerant charge lost through leakage6. Environmentally friendly refrigerants7. Alternative technologies e.g. magneto-caloric refrigeration, thermoelectric refrigeration, thermos-caloric refrigeration, ultrasonic drying, …I was a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Auckland (New Zealand) during 1988-2011, followed by a R&D Staff at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (during 2011-2015) and most recently at Middleby Corporation (during 2016-2020). The University taught me to apply fundamentals to seek a unique solution to a technical problem, the ORNL allowed me to advance the fundamental concept into a practical ‘working system’ with target efficiency goals, while the Corporate World energized me to extend these attributes to develop a unique product that is cost effective and exceeds consumer expectations. I led the development of novel energy efficient products where relevant matters such as product capital cost, its market potential, technical risk assessment and mitigation plan were as important, if not more, as the efficiency and the development of the new product.
Listed skills include Research, Thermodynamic Modeling, Heat Transfer, Energy Efficiency, and 13 others.
