NCP scholar for 6 week elective short-course placement in the Indo-Pacific region: Coimbatore, India during Jan-Feb 2023.

Through this elective placement, I gained valuable experience in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery, in particular completing primary surveys, triaging and interpretation of relevant imaging on presentation to casualty. I developed skills in surgical assisting: ORIF for various procedures including intramedullary nailing, closed reduction percutaneous pinning, limb reconstruction system.

Through this elective placement, I gain valuable skills in neurosurgical assessment of patients on partaking in team ward rounds, on-call referrals and multi-disciplinary team meetings. I developed skills in interpretation of relevant radiology including CT and MR sequences for key pathologies as well as assisting in a range of specialised procedures such as burr-hole and mini-craniotomy subdural evacuations, lumbar microdiscectomy, tumour resection, cranioplasty.

Ongoing mentoring and teaching role. Further management of society and organisations of year.

Running of suturing workshops for medical students, teaching basic surgical skills including suturing and hand-ties. Organising events with assistance of clinicians in surgical practise.
