Working for the Micro:bit Educational Foundation managing international projects.I was one of the original 6 people who worked at the Foundation when it was first formed, and my remit included introducing the micro:bit to countries around the world, setting up and managing the sponsorship scheme and building a global network of distributors and resellers. I also served as Data Controller.When I left the Foundation In Feb 2018 micro:bit was carried by over 200 resellers in over 55 countries. Large scale national initiatives were under way in over a dozen countries, including Croatia, Singapore, Norway and Sri Lanka. In addition, the #microbitsinlibraries initiative had sponsored over 1300 libraries in the UK and inspired similar schemes in at least 5 other countries.

Program manager for BBC on the micro:bit initiative.The BBC micro:bit program was designed to encourage children to take up coding by providing 1m free micro computers to school children in the UK - in particular all children in year 7 or equivalent. I was responsible for delivery of this ambitious endeavour. My team of project managers and I coordinated around 25 work-streams that were being delivered by the BBC and its 30 partners across 3 continents. In addition I served as Data Controller, ensuring all data processes were aligned with the newly minted GDPR requirements.Most of these work-streams themselves were large and complex projects, ranging from designing and building the hardware, to building 4 in-browser editors, to registering and validating over 5000 schools, to packaging and distributing 1 million micro:bits. When my contract expired at the end of April the vast majority of the micro:bits had been delivered to schools, workflows and governance for the remaining aspects of the project were in place, and I handed over the reigns to the BAU team.

Contract Project Manager at BBC. Working for Future Media on Bitesize.I was contracted to deliver a project that involved the production of 6 different interactive videos, using 4 different technologies. The project was a pilot designed to investigate the viability of using interactive video in the learning environment.The project delivered all of its objectives within deadline and budget and is regarded as being a resounding success.

I worked at NHS Choices as an Agile Project Manger for the better part of the year. This included an initial contract of 4 months followed by 3 extensions.The NHS website is visited by tens of millions of users every month and plays an important role in the health of the nation! I was proud to contribute to this in numerous ways:My primary role was agile project manager / scrum master, working across various teams. In addition, I was delivery manager for one of those teams, and performed a BA role where required. I managed several large projects, including a significant data regression project, the modernisation and productisation of the API (built on RDF), and an ontology based symptom checker. Smaller projects included retro-fitting responsiveness across various sections of the site and automated ontology tagging. The position was primarily Leeds based, but involved frequent overnight visits to the London office.

My 15 months at BBC included two separate contracts:... The first was to define, scope out and plan the migration of Bitesize content from the existing platform onto a new, bespoke XML-based system driven by ontologies. ... The second was to project manage this process.The project itself was handled using an Agile approach and was a great success. My team and I migrated tens of thousands of pages, images, infographics, quizzes, sound files and videos, each of which presented unique challenges. We also played a role in defining and shaping the new CMS, as well as ensuring the content was integrated correctly with the underlying ontology. We comfortably met our deadlines and quality parameters. Bitesize content is something of a national treasure, playing an important part in the education of our school children, and I was proud to make a significant and enduring contribution to its ongoing quality and success.

Project managed sundry projects using waterfall methodology. Most prominent was a significant web development and content migration project for a Footsie 100 company.Resigned to pursue an opportunity at the BBC.

Managed multiple accounts, with a focus on standardising project management processes across the business. Also played a key role in the acquisition of new business.Resigned 2 weeks before the agency closed.

Initially employed as a project / account manager I ended up as an Account Director, responsible for running the project / account managers and playing a key role on the management team. I was responsible for teams that managed the Travelodge and Rizla sites and personally project managed the development of the BAFTA online voting application and the content migration from the old system. I played a direct and indirect role in numerous bespoke e-commerce builds, and was one of 2 managers responsible for restructuring company processes and ultimately achieving ISO9001 status.Sadly Sense Internet was a victim of the recession and the 'commodotisation' of web services (which saw bespoke online software houses lose ground to the cheaper agencies who specialise in customising existing CMS frameworks).I spent 6 happy years at Sense and remained until the doors were closed for the last time.

Performed multiple roles: account manager, quantitative market research exec, network administrator and application developer.I also extended the software I had developed in my previous role to automate key aspects of the research process.After 2 years I was disillusioned with the way in which clients did not include the agency in strategy or the interpretation of the research we delivered, and resigned to pursue an opportunity at a leading Leeds web agency.

Whilst working in market research I spotted a massive gap in the software provisions: research executives were manually entering data from volumous print-outs into PowerPoint, and 80% of the charts created were predictable. As much as 20% of the workload of the executive was making charts, and little or no intelligence was involved in the bulk of this.I saw the potential to automate so much of this process, and went on a 9 month software developers course to gain the skills to do so.It took me 3 months to develop my software, which I sold to Research International.

Ran a team of 6 research execs and multiple clerical staff servicing a significant portion of Unilever's quantitative FMCG research.In my time at RI I worked my way up the ranks, in the process gaining experience with a number of different quantitative methodologies. My work on TV advertising research was especially noteworthy, and by the end of my time at RI I was widely regarded as one of the authorities on advertising testing in the country. I also knew the washing powder and detergents markets as well as anyone.Projects included small, fast turnaround ad-hoc work, managing ongoing tracking studies, TV advertising (using a regionalised version of Millward Brown's licensed methodology), volumetric predicitive studies and global habits and attitudes surveys. All projects culminated in a presentation, which is where I honed both my PowerPoint and presentation skills.My time at RI was happy and provided me with skills and experience that was invaluable in my later career. I resigned a few months before emigrating to develop software for the market research industry.

In my first job out of varsity I managed the Maths dept at an independent college / high school. I was the only memeber of the senior Maths dept, responsible for Standard 9 and 10 pupils (the final 2 years of high school in the South African system). After a year the college expanded and provided lectures for open university students, and I lectured first and second year psychology undergraduates.My time teaching was a fantastic experience at a very interesting time in the genesis of the new South Africa.
