In this position I led the Technology team in the fastest growing/highest potential country of the eBay Classifieds Group (#5 in the group at the time of my departure). Challenges & responsibilities included:- Culture & Team: The greatest challenge of this position was to grow the team aggressively (from 3 in 2011 to ~30 in 2014) while maintaining a simple, agile and “can-do” culture. Also, helping shape the culture and processes of the whole Gumtree team towards a lean organization.- Management of external groups: Delivering on technology implies managing relations with: Site Operations team, Finance, Product, the different vertical BUs in the team.- Platform Migration: Forked the platform created by the eBay Kleinanzeigen team (DE), re-skinned it and worked on the feature gap with the previous platform. This project was delivered in less than 6 months and on time. This became the most successful migration of the group with positive impact in SEO, User Experience and Monetization.- Trust & Safety (TnS): As the site grew it became more of a target for spammers, scammers, harvesters, etc. A number of systems were implemented to reduce the impact on our users: “Echelon” A real-time event-analysis tool that allowed us to stop harvesting of contact information on the site (it is being shared with US, DE and DK); Integrated with eBay-provided services for Trust&Safety (user rating, true geolocation, etc).- Mobile: The mix of web & mobile is constantly changing and favouring mobile more and more. This drove us to bring Mobile development in-house. This included the mobile web site, iOS app and Android app.- Participate in the CRT (CTO Round Table): A half-year meeting were the different CTOs of the group meet to discuss technology issues, trends and in general the technology guidance for the business.

A position with an international footprint that allowed me to integrate with other countries to drive technology innovation and sharing in the Local Classified's group (DE, UK, ES, IT, DK). Outstanding projects include:- ReplyTS (Trust and Safety): a service to protect user's identities and automatically screen emails to reduce the impact of Spam and Fraud in our classifieds sites. The system was sponsored by eBay Kleinanzeigen and has been implemented in DE, UK, NL and AU. It was the first successful example of a group-wide product in eBay Classifieds managed as an Open Source project. Managed an external development team to deliver this product.- Advanced Duplicate Detection System: a state of the art system that allowed eliminating near-duplicate adverts on the site. This produce considerable improvements in both User Experience and SEO.- Zoom: An innovative ultra-local classifieds experience at Den Blå Avis (Denmark).- Mobile: Participated in the definition of an early-stage mobile strategy for the eBay Classifieds Group.

In this position I focused on the technology aspects of the business, created and managed the Product Development team of eBay Classifieds Spain (4 Devs), owned the Product Roadmap and the User Experience of the site. Outstanding accomplishments include:- Business growth: Drove 2x growth of Loquo.com visits through SEO and UEX improvements, and 4x growth of revenue (>4MM€) through paid features and Google AdSense optimizations.- eBayAnuncios.es: This project marked the start of the platform decentralization in the group. Created the Invenio platform (PHP, MySQL) from scratch and used it to launch eBayAnuncios.es, the first eBay branded classifieds site worldwide, with great success and in record time (8 weeks). Was awarded with the “Critical Talent” award at eBay.- eBayAnnunci.it: Launched eBay Annunci as a fork of the Invenio platform, managed the migration and transferred ownership to the newly formed Italian team.- “Belen Platform”: Participated in the initial discussions of the design of the Belen Platform: the platform that was used for launching http://kleinanzeigen.ebay.de

Participated in the whole lifecycle of projects, from providing sales support, to managing the development team that deliver it, and providing support and maintenance to end clients.With 12 developers on the development team, it was my duty to implement processes and methodologies, as well as management and evaluation methodologies.As one of the founders, I was also a member of the board of directors where we discussed investment decisions and helped shape the strategy of the company.
