My professional experience can be summarised under four key headings:a) Successful team leader within the European civil service, first at the Council of Ministers, later at the European Parliament, ensuring delivery of support services for MEPs and promotion of the public profile of European Institutions;b) Active journalist as BBC Berlin Correspondent broadcasting in German and English on contemporary events both sides of the Iron Curtain, and now commenting on European affairs from Brussels and Strasbourg, specifically as London Press Correspondent for the Council of Europe, member of the Association of European Journalists, and Vice-Chairman of the London Press Club;c) Reputed academic with early experience establishing an interdisciplinary degree in European Studies, research into transnational issues, and recently published books on contemporary European themes. Currently Visiting Professor of European Politics and Policy at Royal Holloway University of London; Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the European Business School, Regents College; Senior Fellow at the Salzburg Global Studies Seminar; elected member of the Academy of Social Sciences; and Patron of the University Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES). d) Occasional consultant working through Public Administration International (PAI) with continental administrations in transition states at the interface of media, public opinion and government communication policies; also teaching an annual PAI course in London for foreign Government spokespersons on relations between Government and Media. Experienced trainer on behalf of Dods Parliamentary Communications for UK civil service courses relating to European Union institutions, legislative procedures and policy developments.Specialties: I bring to the table a combination of person skills and broad experience of European civil service, policies and politics.
