Working with toilet operators, NGOs, marginalized groups, and governments, the innovators adopt a social public toilet business model with an improved design for women and children, a biogas plant that converts the waste into energy, bundle services to increase profit, and an evidence-based cleaning compliance program.With his Microbiology, Environment and Business Management major and past experiences in promoting rainwater harvesting and freshwater conservation, he is an adept in understanding environmental issues in the perspective of the needs and limitations of businesses, municipalities and non-profits. He served Kathmandu Metropolitan City for four years (1997-2002) in various capacities including decentralized governance, capacity building, poverty reduction, and information dissemination for people’s empowerment. As an Executive Director for NGO Forum for Urban Water and Sanitation (NFOFUWS), for developing pro-poor policies in urban WatSan, he has spearheaded significant promotion in awareness and compliance for urban development too. This has enabled him to further his professional competence in the field of urban community development to improve livelihood and the dignity of the Informal Waste Workers in the Kathmandu Valley by serving as an Executive Director for Center for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD). He played an instrumental role in establishing the Freshwater Action Network in South Asia (FANSA) and continues to raise the civil society voices at the regional and international level. He served INCLUDED in Nepal working particularly for eliminating sources that affect slum migrants. His efforts lie in opening access to the city for migrants living in slums and creating vibrant communities for them. By breaking down barriers of informality and instability that deny the migrants in slums from wider prospects and facilities, he works on integrating the communities into societies at large.
