A handful of technologies have seen an unprecedented growth in the last decade. Robotics, Remote Handling (RH) and Virtual Reality(VR) are some of them and I am proud to be a part of such deep routed, yet magnificent subjects. With strides in development of AI & ML and their integration with automation problems, the objective of robotics has far emerged from just being a 'pick-n-place' manipulator to a sophisticated goal oriented multi-disciplinary solution for everyday automation needs. My first robotics experiences was during B.E project at the BARC, Mumbai, which involved the control of PMAC servo actuated joints using simultaneous serial and parallel communications. Starting my career as an Electrical engineer at Institute for Plasma Research (2010), I was initially involved towards developing of controlled high voltage power supplies for studying CS and TF Coil discharges on Eddy current effects of Tokamak vacuum vessels. The experimental data was supported with electro-magnetic finite element analyses (EM-FEA). My experience in EM-FEA simulations with inclination towards robotics was harnessed for an Indo-UK collaboration (2012-14) for developing RH compatible ELM plasma suppression coils at the Joint European Torus (JET)-CCFE, England, wherein we delivered the conceptual design at around July 2014.Since then I am completely involved towards developing VR assisted control and monitoring solutions for tokamak RH systems. Some of the major deliverables, among others, are as follows:- Long reach & Heavy Payload capable tokamak inspections arms with high vacuum compatibility- Visual Servo mechanism for self alignment of tokamak RH systems using ML (Part of M.S. Engg Thesis)- Control System development for indigenous Hyper-Redundant Robotic Systems- VR & haptic assisted operator training for critical environments- Cobots development for nuclear Hot-cell applicationsI look forward to discussing further areas of collaborations for RH research.
