About Pranay Mankad

Software Engineer (4 years) turned Product Manager (2.5 years) motivated to make an impact on lives. I like to dabble around with the camera, love music and strive to be kind every single day. Here’s my story:When I was introduced to the C++, a magical world appeared where with a few lines of code, I could talk to a computer. Before I knew it the computer was my closest friend. Growing up, I saw my parents tackle problems with the computer. These activities inspired and motivated me to write my first pieces of code: an income tax calculator. It beeped once it was done! A fistful of years later, I graduated with a degree in Information Technology. My professional career started at Tata Consultancy Services, where I learnt about how the industry works, how processes are designed and about something called the “requirements”. As a Systems Engineer, I learnt about process improvements, bug fixing and feature development to specified standards. As I gained experience, my eyes opened up to what lay beyond my role and I started thinking about re-learning. I ventured to pursue my graduate degree in Information Systems at Northeastern University. I stepped into the course with an open mind, welcoming subjects related to data into my portfolio with my interests aligned with data consumption and analysis. I interned at Black Duck Software with the KnowledgeBase, a big data mammoth driven by automation and ETL processes, delivering timely and precise information for powering several products in the portfolio. My responsibility there was to design a quality testing framework in Python. I learnt about collaboration within groups and a broader understanding of how we fit amongst the organization. In turn it brought about ideas and curiosity. I started understanding the consequences that data has on products, the cost of creating and maintaining that data and other processes that drove the offering.I was excited to take on the role of Product Manager for my team’s products. I wanted to re-learn and grow into another role- given the fact that one of my personal aims in life is to have the ability to create impact. During the course of the role, I managed up to 4 products, helping teams achieve goals by managing expectations and aligning with priorities driven by business goals. As conflicts arose; we dealt with them, as distractions appeared; we refocused. My motivation was to help deliver value through data for customers, educate them when necessary and understand the product as its own role in the community. Thank you for reading!
