I conducted research in the field of photonics under the guidance of Dr. Ishan Thakkar. My research broadly encompasses three main areas:- Design and optimization of photonic interconnects for on-chip and inter-chiplet communication- Design, simulation, testing and analysis of novel passive and active silicon and silicon nitride-based photonic devices and circuits for specialized computational devices such as AI accelerators and FPGAs- Exploration of new electro-optic materials such as transparent conductive oxides for the design of advanced photonic devices and circuits for various applications

I contributed to the development of industry's first low power (5W) coherent pluggable optical transceiver, named Coherent 100ZR (100GQSFP-28) that uses complex modulation formats such as dual polarization-quadrature phase shift keying (DP-QPSK) for high-speed data communication. My learnings from this internship mainly included: - In-depth exposure to the design and optimization of coherent optical transceivers namely, QSFP-28, IC-TROSA etc. that employ silicon and indium phosphide (InP) based photonic integrated circuits- Hands-on experience with measuring the mechanical flatness of substrates used to co-package photonics and electronics, and testing the high-performance electrical driver circuits and TIAs- Working collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment, gaining insights into the product development lifecycle and project managementThis internship experience enriched my skill set, providing me with valuable insights into the practical applications of photonics in the industry

I conducted research in the field of transparent antennas at the Zips Electronics and Nanotechnologies Laboratory (ZEN-Lab), under the guidance of Dr. Ryan Christopher Toonen. As part of my master's thesis, I engaged in a project that entails the design, fabrication and characterization of transparent antennas based on nanowire thin films. Utilizing ANSYS HFSS, I modeled and simulated these transparent antennas. This project was a collaborative effort with NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and Nano-C Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts. The devices were fabricated at NASA Glenn Research Center, and subsequent testing was carried out at PCTEL Inc. in Akron, Ohio. The research experience at ZEN-Lab played a pivotal role in shaping my academic and professional trajectory. This enriching experience served as my primary motivation for pursuing a PhD.
