In my present role as Genomics scientist and lab manager of Genomics lab of African Orphan Crops Consortium (AOCC) hosted by World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), I am coordinating the genome sequencing, transcriptome sequencing and re-sequencing of 101 AOCC (and ICRAF) mandate crops/trees, which is being/will be used to develop genomics tools and building breeding programs. At present, I am in the process of building modern breeding programs for indigenous African fruit trees, mandated by CIFOR-ICRAF based on genomics data. Other AOCC partners are using these tools for building breeding programs for African indigenous vegetables and other annuals with inputs from AOCC.Other interests include development and application of advanced molecular tools in plant breeding, understanding genetic and epigenetic mechanisms controlling plant growth and yield, integrative approaches for improvement in growth and yield using genomics, transcriptomics and other 'omics'.
