Prasad Thomas is working as a scientist (11 years) in Division of Bacteriology and Mycology, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI). During this period, he also received ICAR international fellowship and completed his Doctorate study in association with Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI) and Freie University Berlin (FU-Berlin), Germany (Jul, 2014 to Feb, 2018). He has been working in bacterial diseases to understand genetic diversity, development of diagnostics, vaccines, virulence factors, antimicrobial resistance and molecular epidemiology aspects of pathogens. Worked with bacterial pathogens belonging to genus Pasteurella, Clostridium, Salmonella, Escherichia, Mycoplasma and Brucella.He has gained expertise in handling Next Generation Sequence (NGS) data, computational biology and bioinformatics: Application of both second and third generation sequence data for genome analysis of bacteria, development of genome-wide typing systems, understanding pathogen biology, virulence factors and antimicrobial resistance characterization in animal/zoonotic bacterial pathogens.Molecular Biology, Immunological Techniques, Diagnostics and Vaccines: Primer designing, Site-directed mutagenesis, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, Loop mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) tests, Protein expression and detection, Western blot, ELISA, Agglutination tests. Vaccine candidate designing and development.
