After graduating from Southampton University with a maths degree, I joined the team at Legal and General Investment Management as a group pensions analyst.Although this was rewarding in its own way, I felt it wasn’t best suited to me as I missed personal connection and the intrinsic human factor.Having considered many options, I chose to go back to University (Cardiff this time) and retrain as an Ophthalmic Optician.While still studying for this degree, I knew that I wanted to do the best job I could and provide the best care and experience I could for my customers, so I investigated ways of opening my own business, which I did as soon as I was qualified.Specsavers seemed the best fit.In these early days, the company really valued entrepreneurial skills and new ideas. It was fantastic being part of this early team and really influencing the direction of the company in a very real sense. It is something I am so grateful and proud to have been a part of for over 23 years.As my experience and knowledge grew and was indeed recognised by the company, I opened another two stores. I then went on to open the first Specsavers Hearcare store in the London region, integrating the two businesses seamlessly.All of my stores won many customer service awards over the years (one year coming first in the UK, followed a few years later by first, second and third in the region). This is because I put customer service at the very heart of everything I do.As the company grew into more of a corporate being, I realised I missed the exciting enterprising side of health care, so still with customer care at the very centre I looked into opening another business. This was Care More; I used all my customer service and customer facing skills from practising as an Ophthalmic Optician, to ensure my Domiciliary Home Care and Care Recruitment business the very best I could.As this business increased, developed and became more successful, it became apparent it was best for the customer to split the two businesses and have the opportunity to give specialised care to the two sectors and Care More Recruitment was born.My values that guide me are: person-centred, quality driven and care.
