Relocated to India in Sept 2017 as the Global R&D Director - Dairy & Plant Nutrition as a part of the Corporate R&D team. In this role I led the innovation and technology platforms such as Gut Health, Delivering Wholesome Nutrition of Plant Based Sources and Delivering High Protein Dairy Beverages. The innovations developed under these platforms are being applied in multiple markets in Latin America, Europe and Asia.

I was based at Coca-Cola Asia Pacific R&D Centre (Shanghai) for 4.5 years as the Lead of Dairy COE ( Center Of Excellence). I directly and indirectly led an organisation of 22 people based in Shanghai and India as part of this COE responsible for Dairy Product Development and Research, Process, Micro, Analytical, Sensory/Technical Consumer Research and Packaging. I am the key contributor in building the Dairy and Plant Protein business for the company. Coca-Cola has a business of around 2 Billion Dollars in Dairy and Plant Nutrition Category. During this tenure, me and my team developed and delivered innovations like Barista Bros (Australia, Mexico), Nutriboost (ASEAN, Africa), Pulpy Super Milky (China), Yogurstand (Japan), Vio and Minute Maid Smoothie (India). As the Lead of Dairy COE, I built and nurtured a high-performance team, developed both people and equipment capability in all segments within Dairy & Plant based beverages that included Fusions, Smoothies, High Protein Drinks, Flavoured Milk, Yoghurts, Nut, Bean, Seed Based Innovations.

As Head of India R&D Hub with an added responsibility of Regional Master Blender for Juice between 2007-2013. Responsible for building this R&D Hub from scratch, building team and its capabilities and establishing it as a Center Of Excellence for Mango Science & Application. This Center supported India and South West Asia Region having a business of USD 2.5 Billion . Product segments included Sparkling, Juice, Dairy, Hydration, Tea, Coffee,and Energy Drinks.During this tenure, I established the R&D Center in India from scratch in year 2008. Built a highly talented engaged team. The Successful innovations developed by me and my team included Nimbufresh, Maaza Alphonso, Maaza Refresh, Maaza Alphonso, Georgia Masala Tea and Filter Coffee, Minute Maid 100 % Juice Range, Minute Maid Nectars and Drinks, Rimzim Masala Soda, Vitingo etc. Among these products, Vitingo is an Iron fortification drink that was launched as a corporate social responsibility initiative for increasing the iron intake of underprivileged population. This product was clinically tested. Built strong capability in Product Development, Pilot Plant, Sensory, Stability Testing, Technical Consumer Research and Analytical to enable this delivery. Created an expert center for Mango Science & Application and Bottom of Pyramid innovations in India R&D.

My profile included the following. - Create the product ideas across categories like Juice, Dairy, Functional, Sparkling and Tea that can enhance the portfolio of key Beverage majors in India.- Conduct Innovation Workshops for Beverage majors and develop a business case including product, costing, ingredient supplier details, stability data etc. and help the client in any support needed in the adoption of these ideas.- Work with the consumer groups and the expert panel in building knowledge on the most preferred profiles. Support the flavor creation in achieving the most consumer preferred profile in different product formats and create a robust collection of flavors that cater the needs of different categories.

Heinz is the world leader in Ketchup and in India they have a major business in nutrition with products like Complan (2nd largest selling Milk based nutritional drink), Glucon-D (largest selling Glucose drink), Farex (Infant cereal) & Nycil (prickly heat powder). Heinz has a Dairy unit to manufacture Complan with its own milk supply chain. My profile included the product development under the categories of Biscuits, Glucon-D, Infant Cereal Products and Prickly Heat Powder. I also had the responsibility of Research and Commercialization of these categories.Achievements included developing and commercializing the products across categories like Complan Biscuits, Glucon D Biscuits, Glucon D Lemon-Lime, Glucon D vanilla with vitamins, Farex Multi Fruit. Identified and delivered sustainability initiatives in Glucon-D leading to a savings of 4 MM USD.

Britannia is the largest biscuit manufacturer in India and they had a collaboration with Dannone. My key role during the first 2 years, was to set up a project on Creamed Wafer Biscuit that was launched as Chekkers. This project was done through the technology transfer from Dannone and I was involved in this project from day 1, starting from lab scale trials to establishing the process, stabilizing the product and commercial scale up. During the third year in this organization, I was given the larger responsibility of manufacturing operations in the Biscuit segment where I managed a staff of around 60 people responsible for manufacturing, production planning and other operations.
