The City Rail Link is the largest transport infrastructure project ever to be undertaken in Aotearoa New Zealand, with a budget of circa $4.4b. The CRL is a 3.45km twin-tunnel underground rail link up to 42 metres below the city centre transforming the downtown Britomart Transport Centre into a two-way through-station that better connects the Auckland rail network. These works will be carried out by Link Alliance which comprise of six New Zealand international companies. These are City Rail Link Ltd (CRLL), Vinci Construction Grands Projets S.A.S, Downer NZ Ltd, Soletanche Bachy International NZ Limited, WSP New Zealand Limited, AECOM New Zealand Limited and Tonkin + Taylor Limited.Key deliverables include:- Construction of a new station at Mt Eden including a 7m deep open trench for the CRL platforms and entrance at Ruru Street.- Construction of shafts, platforms, lifts, escalators, rooms housing station and tunnel services equipment, building works, services, architectural finishes utilities services diversions and connections and reinstatement of streets.- Track alignment in multiple stages with associated overhead line and signalling plant and equipment relocations- Building two new public pedestrian footbridges and a new road bridge, heavy retaining structures and earthworks associated with the grade-separated tracks.- Control systems, communication systems, control room fit out and building works and auxiliaries as well as installation of rail systems, testing and commissioning and operational readiness.

The project objective was to establish the America's Cup syndicate bases in and around Wynyard Basin, which is located along part of Auckland’s City Centre waterfront. This includes Hobson Wharf, the Halsey Street Extension Wharf and Wynyard Wharf, including the surrounding waterspace. The Wynyard Edge Alliance (WEA), consisting of Auckland Council, Panuku, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), Beca, Tonkin + Taylor, McConnell Dowell and Downer, came together as one crew for the mammoth undertaking. This included design and construction of all infrastructure elements, Including lanside and marine works.Key deliverables included:- Hobson Wharf extension to house the Challenger of Record’s base- Halsey Wharf converted to house Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ)- Wynyard Point redevelopment made space to house the five challenger syndicate bases- Extension to the popular Silo Park- Relocation of the SeaLink Ferry facility- Moving of a large stormwater outfall to the end of Wynyard Point
