Engineering Geologist
As the engineering geologist on the terrace and underground facilities of the power plant, duties encountered on a day to day basis include; * The reviewing of contractors’ method statements and development of instructions to contractors on site. * Data Pack Lead for Underground utilities, and terraces: Facilitate with the contractor on compiling and closing out data books for construction turn over to commissioning of the plant. * All geotechnical aspects are reviewed, risk assessments are conducted on gaps identified and if deemed required, on site testing of geotechnical requirements done.* Managing geotechnical team in reviewing of data books.* Geotechnical Oversight of works done on the Air Cooling Condenser – Units 1 to 6.* Evaluation of deep and shallow foundation conditions according to sitedrawing, design change request, and site instructions* Supervise field testing (Nuclear moisture-density gauge test, DPSH, DCP)Supervise and verify pipe trenching and backfilling according SANS 1200* Determine rock hardness in excavated areas.* Evaluate different excavation supports (trench boxes, benching)* Evaluate differential settlement issues in concerned area i.e. analyse surveyresults and field tests results (DCP and DPSH)* Evaluate bearing capacity as per drawings and quality control tests(Plate load tests)* Advise together with designer of soil type to be used for certain areas.* Advise and inspection on measures used to control water seepage* Analysis of laboratory results according to COLTO and TRH14:1985* Identify construction and quality deviation from design and raise non-conformance report against contractor.* Wetland Area Pipe Supports:* Supervision of piling activities for pile supports over wetland area.* Verifying founding conditions and depth according to design and geotechnical report.* Verifying contractors pile logs
