Research:Project I: Elucidation of mechanisms that confer taxane resistance in gastric cancer.This project involves characterizing the role of a microtubule binding protein CLIP170 in conferring resistance to taxanes in gastric cancer.Project II: Understanding the role of H. pylori infection, the gastric microbiome and tumor microenvironment in the etiology of Gastric Cancer.This project involves understanding of gastric cancer biology as it relates to Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), the gastric microbiome, and the immune response to malignancy.Clinical Trials: Served as a Research lead on a number of investigator-initiated clinical trials in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies like Merck, BMS, Sanofi and Oncolys Biopharma. • Multicenter, Randomized Phase II study evaluating Pembrolizumab in combination with chemotherapy and chemoradiation in locally advanced esophageal adenocarcinoma in collaboration with Merck & Co Pharmaceuticals. • Phase II study of short course FOLFOX chemotherapy with either Nivolumab or Nivolumab + Radiation in the first line treatment of metastatic or unresectable gastroesophageal cancers in collaboration with Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS). • Phase II study of Telomelysin (OBP-301) in combination with pembrolizumab in esophagogastric adenocarcinoma, in collaboration with Oncolys Biopharma.• Phase II clinical trials to investigate effectiveness of cabazitaxel (semi-synthetic drug) in gastric cancer patients in collaboration with Sanofi Pharmaceuticals. - Co-authored Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols and lab manuals for establishing guidelines and appropriate procedures for processing, handling and shipments of clinical samples. - Responsible for defining supplementary aims on clinical trials, strategy formation, design and successful implementation of research plan in a timely and efficient manner.
