This pro bono experience gives me access to comprehensive case papers, ranging from Crown Court transcripts to forensic evidence, telecommunications data and witness statements and therefore able to gain significant “behind the scenes” insight the way the original defence and appeal were conducted as well as the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to their client’s chances of a successful appeal moving forward. Many of their cases involve serious crimes such as murderer multi-handed drugs conspiracies, giving participants the chance to develop in-depth working knowledge of complex or evolving legal issues, such as joint enterprise. As part of the specific programme that Freedom Law Clinic offers in conjunction with University of Reading, I will be working on a single client case for a period of six weeks. A range of digital tools are used to allow participants to engage in the casework remotely, with a number of concise online lectures covering points of law and regular video calls for supervision and update meetings with the programme leader and a supervising solicitor.

I am currently undertaking a 6-month placement in environmental law, receiving mentorship from an experienced legal professional. The placement includes five days of hands-on experience, where I shadow my mentor during client meetings, court appearances, and networking events. In addition to these in-person opportunities, I regularly participate in catch-up calls and attend CPD events, gaining practical insights and expanding my knowledge in environmental law.

As a Legal Cheek Campus Ambassador, I have the incredible opportunity to manage university-specific social media accounts, sharing engaging content and updates about Legal Cheek events. Partnered with Travers Smith, I gain exclusive insights into the legal industry, assist with prestigious careers events, and contribute to various projects and articles.

My responsibilities included greeting costumers and handling payments in a fast and friendly way to ensure quality service in a prompt manner to provide minimal costumer wait times. Additionally, I handled raw food materials whilst maintaining the “golden standard” hygiene quality. All of this was done aside with cooperating with my co-workers during high volume of demand hour. I did this during sixth form which allowed me to gain time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
