Dr. Pravin Saraswatula is an Assistant Research Scientist for Materials and Rigid Pavement at Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI). He primarily works on R&D projects for State DOTs, FHWA, and others, focusing on concrete and construction materials evaluation, mixture design, optimization, and performance evaluation, alongside leading cutting-edge product development and proprietary tools for research implementation. Dr. Saraswatula has a proven track record of developing successful grant proposals with state and federal agencies and industry partners, as well as steering cross-functional teams and nurturing industry-academia partnerships across diverse and multidisciplinary R&D projects. He also possesses a deep understanding of material science/chemistry and ASTM, AASHTO, and RILEM standards, complemented by multiple certifications and honors in the field of concrete testing and repair. Dr. Saraswatula is passionate about emerging technologies and actively works on developing new machine-learning models and specialized software applications/tools to drive research implementation into practice. Recently, as part of a TxDOT-sponsored project, Dr. Saraswatula spearheaded the development of TxDOT Tool, user-friendly software for DOT and industry practitioners that facilitates rapid durability assessment and optimization of High-Performance Concrete (HPC) mixtures used for bridge deck construction in Texas. Dr. Saraswatula received his Ph.D. (civil engineering) from Texas A&M University (College Station, TX) in 2022, M.S. (civil engineering) from Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, GA) in 2014, and B.Tech (civil engineering) from VJTI (Mumbai, India) in 2012. Dr. Saraswatula has established thought leadership through high-impact publications and invited talks in the cement and concrete sectors. He holds esteemed voting and associate member positions on several key technical committees within the American Concrete Institute and Transportation Research Board. He also serves as a peer-reviewer for various journals/conferences ranging from the Transportation Research Record (TRR), ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, and others. Dr. Saraswatula holds several active ACI certifications in concrete laboratory testing and currently serves as the supervisor of concrete laboratories at the Center for Infrastructure Renewal (CIR), Bryan, Texas.
