UrbanSpace: Building A Digital Navigation Platform for Data-driven Explorationsof Urban Environments [An OpenSpace project] Navigation systems such as Google Street View have enabled an unprecedented capability for users to explore and interact visually within urban environments. Being able to digitally "teleport" across places in the city in addition to beingentertaining, it can improve citizen knowledge on urban neighborhoods as well as assist them in decision making e.g. on whether they should invest on a property at an area or simply book an Airbnb apartment. In this project, we aspire to build a novel tool for urban navigation that willbe focused on information exploration in cities. The tool will provide rich data-driven visual projections of information in cities on a street level. The tool will enable users to navigate across the urban landscape and through the city's network of streets. Users will be able to query interesting geo-referenced information about streets, places and neighborhoods in a 2/3-D setting. Examples of such information could potentially include but not necessarily limited to local crime statistics, historical property prices, socio-economic indicators or historic references. While the initial set of data inputs will be drawn from open and public sources e.g. wikipedia, open government data one of the key requirements of the system's design will be to enable citizen contributions of local datasets.
