I am a social neuroscientist. Having published 52 journal articles on topics, including psychosis, social anxiety and family relationships, I champion the need for good relationships in mental health. Publishing a student's project on the mental health of Black students and preparing the university application for the Race Equality Charter allow me to advocate for racial equality. Teaching about the psychology of emotions encourages my students. Patience and kindness are my core values.My research aims to delineate the brain-behaviour association arising from family attitudes towards schizophrenia-like experiences. Measuring the volume of brain regions using magnetic resonance imaging has allowed me to study the relationship between the brain and vulnerability for psychosis. Collaborating with psychologists and computer scientists has resulted in digital interventions for better mental health. We have create a therapy for social anxiety using the latest virtual-reality technology.Leading the School of Applied Sciences on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion helps me to narrow the gaps in the student progression and staff development. Leading the School and University-wide applications for equality charters, such as Athena Swan and Race, effects change in institutional practices.Supervising PhD students on family relationships, and publishing postgraduate and undergraduate research projects, including social anxiety and lived experiences of being a person of minority ethnicity, champions social and psychological well-being.
