Design & Entrepreneurship Network

This CI allows student teams to be mentored by leaders in device design, development, marketing, patenting and small business development to forward student-led technology and ideas. Initially, this CI focuses on mentoring technologies that are being generated by other CI groups, as well as from other Capstone Design programs, but other “independent” teams and technical areas are sought after the CI structure is established. Teams can include undergraduates and graduates, and preference is given to groups that have already formed around a topic or technology of interest. Mentors and guest speakers from industry, patent law, marketing and start-up businesses work with student teams to take technology beyond the university development level. The format is very student-driven, with small student teams presenting each week on some aspect of their technology development and business plans. These presentations will be the focal point for discussions, mentoring and advice.

Ai-Cybersecurity Undergraduate Researcher

Clemson University, South Carolina, United States

This internship is based on a project that is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to solve the critical social-cybersecurity problem of cyberharassment with the use of automating detection. This project advances AI-cybersecurity education with our development of curricular modules and hands-on labs. It's a project that benefits computer science (CS) and non-CS students, particularly those in the field of social sciences in their understanding of information towards mutual needs and benefits of AI and social-cybersecurity. The overall goal of this project is to transform recent research outcomes in emerging social-cybersecurity into an educational format. The hands-on labs will be integrated into a cloud-based open learning platform, which contains our team’s classic AI-driven cyberharassment detection algorithms, adversarial attacks against these AI algorithms and defenses, and social issues and bias mitigation in AI models. The cloud-based open labs and learning platform designed in this project will be easily accessed by faculty from other universities.

Clemson University Online Eureka! 2022 Undergraduate Researcher

Clemson University, South Carolina, United States

The EUREKA! program is offered by Clemson University's Honors College to conduct undergraduate research even before incoming freshmen start their Clemson career. I conducted research online along with my team of other Clemson Honors students. Our project was on the topic of Data Analysis on User Reviews for Identification of a Common Alexa Issue, which was the goal of working towards trustworthy Alexa Voice Service. Our team developed a tool in which we can identify Alexa misunderstandings, which is what we classified as Alexa Understanding Reviews (AURs). We gained important experience in leadership and teamwork as well as in our technical skills in Python. Ultimately, we realized that there still needs to be a lot more effort put in to actually achieve the goal of having a perfect voice assistant that becomes the most efficient and has little to no issues. Linked below is the 2022 EUREKA! Undergraduate Poster Forum, my EUREKA! google site, and my specific EUREKA! poster.

Academic Tutor & Grader

Charlotte, North Carolina, United States

I taught students from grades K-8 in Math and English; I graded books as well as provided feedback for them in terms of what they can work towards in their strengths and weaknesses. I also advised and guided the parents of the students and discussed action to take to ensure their best academic success. I set goals for what needed to be accomplished within the learning standard for the students; I set goals for my other colleagues (graders) to meet for quality feedback, and I hosted monthly meetings to make sure everything was intact. I administered diagnostic, midterm, final, and practice EOG exams that students took provided by Best Brains. Lastly, I assisted in event organization for children such as contests and open houses, and I communicated with my other staff members to implement more opportunities for students in and out of the classroom! I've learned that every student perceives problems or challenges in their own way, and that it was my job both as a grader and a tutor to adapt to those unique learning styles and abilities that each child displays. It was such a joy to attend this job, as my focus was on making a difference, big or small, in a child's education and learning environment. From this experience in adjusting the way I taught a child, I also indirectly impacted my own way of learning because I could be teaching them something in a way which I never would have thought of when I have studied that particular topic. This was more of a learning process for both my student and myself to actually master subject knowledge. I've ultimately learned the psychology behind motivating children as well through consistently building that trust in them that they can truly succeed in their academics!
