Leading quantum and microelectronics business development for Illinois

I worked with UChicago researchers in physical sciences and engineering to help identify the commercial potential of their research, strategically protect their intellectual property and support commercialization of their research, including through the formation of new ventures. I helped facilitate commercialization of cutting edge research in areas such as quantum information science and related technologies, novel materials for imaging, sensing, and energy storage, and computational protein design. In addition, I served as a coach and mentor for teams in the NSF Innovation Corps Program and the Polsky Accelerator programs.

I worked on collaborative initiatives with institutions such as Argonne National Lab and University of Illinois to help grow the innovation ecosystem around UChicago.

I managed part of a complex portfolio of a major Canadian corporation filing about 40 patent application families annually. I drafted over a 100 patent applications and managed the prosecution of these patent applications before PCT, US, Canadian, European and various other patent offices. I worked with clients ranging from universities and startups to international corporations by providing them with services tailored to their needs.

My work at an IP boutique law firm included patent drafting, prosecution, patentability searches and opinions, competitor and technology landscape mapping, patent portfolio monitoring, and assisting in the strategic development of patent portfolios.I have experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications for technologies ranging from nanotechnology, optics, microfluidics, mobile device applications, consumer electronics, consumer products, heavy machinery, medical devices, cleantech and the like.

I taught various physics courses to students in pre-university and continuing education programs.

My work in the Functional Nanomaterials Group involved the development of nanoscale devices and appropriate measurement techniques for the electrical detection of single DNA molecules. I also worked on the development of micro-contact lithography techniques for creating patterned structures of organic molecules. This work involved extensive collaboration and consultation with various biology and chemistry experts to determine feasibility of proposed research.

I fabricated and studied various physical phenomenon in spintronics devices such as those used in MRAM. My research involved extensive use of the Cornell Nanofabrication facility and thus exposed me to cutting edge micro- and nano-fabrication processes used in semiconductor and nanotechnology industries.The work for my dissertation titled "Spin and Charge Transport in Ultra-thin Tunnel Barriers and Interfaces in Nanoscale Devices" was performed in the lab of Prof. Robert Buhrman.
