My current role has allowed me to build a broad range of skills across multiple technical disciplines. As someone who is very interested in IT and technology, this has allowed me to excel and progress quickly. Typically throughout a project I will produce a detailed design (allocating VLANs, subnets, documenting server specifications, additional services, high level diagrams, storage allocations), create and configure Check Point VSX virtual instances, configure VLANs, HSRP, VRFs, routing etc on Cisco Nexus switches, configure HP Virtual Connect networks and server profiles, create and export virtual volumes on HP 3Par storage arrays, build and install VMware ESXi on HP blade servers, install and configure VMware vCentre (virtual switches, DRS, HA, clusters etc.), create and configure Windows virtual servers (2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2) according to customer specifications (also maintain the server templates), occasionally install and configure Windows features such as Active Directory, DFS replication, IIS.There are a number of other skills I have which are utilised regularly on various projects, including but not limited to VPN creation (Check Point and Cisco ASA), troubleshooting switch issues, troubleshooting basic VMware issues, troubleshooting Windows, creating base Linux servers (Red Hat), Symantec Endpoint Protection configuration and maintenance, Amazon Web Services solution design and deployment.I also interview new candidates joining Softcat in a Service Desk or Graduate position. I have carried out a large number of interviews with candidates of various skill levels. I am regularly trusted with evaluating and reporting on new products and technologies that the business want to look into. My opinions and findings are highly valued by the business and my colleagues.Due to my extensive knowledge of customers and their environments I regularly assist support teams when high priority issues arise.
