Conducting research on nerve regeneration in the cornea of CGRP transgenic mice using immunohistochemistry (IHC) and confocal imaging.Assisting in the preparation and staining of tissue samples and utilizing imaging techniques to visualize cellular and neuronal structures in transgenic models.Focusing on a project that is investigating corneal tissue health, comparing the effects of fluid movement in a bioreactor with static storage conditions (eye bank style) to assess the viability and condition of the epithelium and endothelium layers.

Toborek LaboratoryConducted biochemistry research and experimental techniques for a variety of projects that are focused on the vascular effects of HIV infection with a focus on the alterations of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in addition to the cerebrovascular toxicity of environmental pollutants. Have done over 160 hours of research here.Focused on a project titled “HIV-1 infection modulates RNA sensors and innate immunity signaling in human brain pericytes”Conducted Western blots, gel electrophoresis, and image analysis of membrane scans, including quantifications of data.Assisted in writing the research manuscript, which is currently in progress for publication.Shadowed polymerase chain reactions (PCR) as part of the experimental workflow.Presented research through a poster presentation at BMB Research Day at the Miller School of Medicine on 03/07/24 and at UM’s annual Undergraduate Research, Creativity, and Innovation Forum (RCIF) on 04/10/24.

The Volunteer LINK is a service-based student organization that works to provide a variety of opportunities to University of Miami students through on-campus, off-campus, and take-home service activities and projects.As President, I organize and lead semesterly schoolwide service events and manage fundraising/donations to specific charities. I conduct biweekly meetings with the organization’s advisor and also separate meetings with the executive board to plan upcoming events and ensure smooth execution.I am responsible for overseeing various administrative tasks such as submitting monthly reports, working closely with the treasurer on budget drafting to receive funding from the university to support our schoolwide service events, and ensuring compliance with new Butler Center policies regarding event expenditures.I work in collaboration with various other student orgs at the university to promote/create all service/volunteering-based opportunities to the general body.

Shadowed Dr. Amalanshu Jha, MD, who is a general surgeon with over 25 years of experience, for approximately 60 hours at Beverly Hospital and Essex Surgical Associates.Observed eight diverse surgical procedures, including laparoscopic and robotic hernia repairs (both umbilical and inguinal), robotic gallbladder removals to treat cholecystitis and gallstones, as well as lipoma, cyst, and back mass excisions.Participated in the pre- and post-operative phases by observing patient interactions in the office setting, including initial consultations, follow-up appointments, and minor office-based procedures.Acquired a comprehensive understanding of patient management, surgical decision-making, and the dynamics of a high-volume surgical practice.
