Technology Fellow - Ndt
I am responsible for NDE research capabilities within the research center and assist the large-scale manufacturing sector. Over the past two years, I have successfully scoped and secured a portfolio of research grants to develop state-of-the-art NDE solutions. My current research interest, 1. Non-contact in-process inspection for large-scale manufacturing2. Advanced manufacturing process improvement3. In-service inspection of NPPs for life expansion4. Autonomous monitoring of critical components in NPPs. I was a key member in setting up the collaborative R&D team including setting up the process and procedures to align with the cooperate strategy. As part of the role, I have engaged with a number of SMEs in supporting their business by improving their current manufacturing process which is a KPI of catapult centers. Furthermore, I am presenting Nuclear AMRC at national and international NDE forums such as RCNDE and NUGENIA-SNETP. Additionally, I am representing the Assurance theme of Nuclear AMRC at HVMC. A key part of this activity is to develop cross catapult collaborations, capability development, and technology roadmap development in line with the British government’s innovation strategy. Furthermore, I support the CEO of Nuclear AMRC with the GEN IV AMME representation which has provided a wider understanding of the role of advanced manufacturing in the nuclear sector and has strengthen my network of key peers alike.

Advances in Materials (AM) publishes reviews, full-length papers, and short communications recording original research results on, or techniques for studying the relationship between structure, properties, and uses of materials. The subjects are seen from international and interdisciplinary perspectives covering areas including metals, ceramics, glasses, polymers, electrical materials, composite materials, fibers, nanostructured materials, nanocomposites, and biological and biomedical materials. AM aims to be the leading source of primary communication for scientists investigating the structure and properties of all engineering materials.

Delivering the special issue of sensors entitled, "Advances in Ultrasonic Guided Wave Sensor Technologies for Structural Health Monitoring".Ultrasonic Guided Wave (UGW) testing has gained greater attention from the industry for its inherent capability of long-range inspection. This technology is widely used as a screening tool in many industries, e.g., oil and gas, renewable energy, naval, construction, and aerospace. Recent attempts have been made to improve the resolution and sensitivity of UGW sensors for quantitative measurements of structural health and also to inspect complex structures, e.g., glass laminate aluminium reinforced epoxy, and carbon fiber reinforced polymer. This Special Issue is aimed to the submission of both review and original research articles related to the advancement of UGW sensor development, signal processing, and applications of UGW for structural assessment. Topics include but are not limited to the following:1. Non-destructive testing and material characterisation2. The inspection of complex material and structures using UGW3. Flexible sensor development4. UGW imaging and visualisation5. Industrial applications6. The remote monitoring of structural healthProf. Dr. Tat-Hean GanDr. Shehan LoweProf. Dr. Wamadeva BalachandranGuest Editors
