I worked at EMC and Dell in the Symmetrix/PowerMax storage division as a software engineer. High-end storage systems are essentially embedded supercomputers with lots of disks. Lead and sole developer for many projects and worked as a project lead and a member of other teams. General duties included coding in C and Assembly, gathering requirements, writing design documentation, code reviews, developing test plans, debugging, and providing field support.Selected projects: • Designed multiple subsystems, including gathering requirements, writing design documentation, developing test plans, and coordinating with other developers • Import BSD fast file system and VFS layer into Symmetrix microcode with major architectural changes • Write a GigE device driver supporting NUMA memory • Gather requirements, design, and develop an audit log used by multiple outside teams • Handle NMI faults from PCIe devices, fencing off failing parts without further system disruption • Monitor system components using IMPI to detect environmental anomalies • Import BSD TCP/IP stack into Symmetric microcode • Designed and developed fault-tolerant system for saving PowerMax memory during power loss • Modify PowerMax code to run under Linux • Developed and maintained a script for accessing lab systems remotely in various ways consisting of over 4000 lines of Bash and Wish (TCL/TK) code • Developed and deployed a system for gathering system state of lab systems to allow for offline debugging, winning an internal hackathon award • Manufacturing/Software Liaison (March 2008 – June 2016): In addition to developer responsibilities, I was the point of contact for all software issues that arose in Manufacturing. I was responsible for directing a wide range of issues to the appropriate developers and ensuring that they resolved the issues.
